According to the book Witnesses To Possession, a devout priest in Germany visited a possessed boy and as he entered, spoke six simple words:
“In nomine Jesu omne genu flectatur.”
That’s Latin for “At the Name of Jesus, every knee shall bow in Heaven, on earth, and under the earth.”
Certainly seems to cover all necessary ground!
Powerful. “In nomine Jesu omne genu flectatur.”
The devil and his minions hate Latin. It scalds them. And of course, nothing scalds workers of darkness like the Name Jesus.
As the book recounts, “Hardly had he spoken these words when the boy collapsed like a lifeless mass; then he began to moan and howl and crept wailing under the bed.
“The priest repeated the same words and commanded the boy to come closer. When he refused, the priest sprinkled Holy Water beneath the bed.
“Thereupon the possessed boy crawled out on all fours, whimpering and writhing on the floor, and fled into a corner as far away from the priest as possible.”
That’s something we all desire: a distance from evil spirits.
And the Church, with its prayers and sacramentals, as well of course sacraments, offers us a height and depth of protection. Christ commanded us through His apostle and disciples to command out spirits.
The next time you feel attack, try those words (““In nomine Jesu omne genu flectatur”), and then command any spirits out, again, the the Name (nomine) of Jesus.
Jesu!
Of Faith offers us tools. Our chore and that of our local priests is to use them.
