That Linda Clancy case: You know, the mother who killed her three children in Duxbury, Massachusetts, in 2023, and whose trial for homicide has garnered international attentions but was declared a mistrial?

To quickly revisit a previous article we carried on the demonism behind it, her defense and a bevy of psychiatrists and psychologists argue she suffered from severe postpartum psychosis or bipolar disorder (two personalities). Experts from both sides agree that Clancy was hearing a voice when this troubled woman killed her poor children.

Hospital chaplain Sheila Cavanaugh testified that Clancy told her the male voice issued a chilling ultimatum that “if she did not follow the command, neither she nor her children would be safe.”

That voice was described as a loud, deep, persisting male voice and it reportedly told her: “You should kill the kids, this is your last chance so that you can kill yourself.”

She had repeatedly sought psychiatric help. warning that she might harm her children and herself.

As she strangled those poor youngsters (pray for them), she told each, “Go to God.” She thought she was saving them.

Psychiatrists have also labeled this “command hallucination” and “delusion of influence”—a “major depressive episode.”

She couldn’t get that voice out of her head.

All the drugs she had been prescribed by a psychiatrist didn’t help. Some may have opened doors wider.

But another fascinating aspect is how similar it is not only to other famous killers who claimed to have been possessed, but to what seems like an overarching, chilling demonic trends, whereby evil “voices” are telling mothers to slay their children in order to save them and themselves.

A week before the Clancy mistrial, a Bronx, New York judge found a mother of two suffering from postpartum psychosis not guilty of killing her young children in 2022 due again to “psychosis.” Fleming said she had been hallucinating, convinced that the world was coming to an end and believed a spirit had invaded her body. Similarly, Fleming believed her actions “were necessary to protect or ‘cleanse’ her children,” according to a forensic psychiatrist report written by doctors hired by the defense.

Before the killings, Fleming had been treated at a Queens hospital for two months.

And these two cases call back to the sensational 2001 case of Andre Yates in Clear Lake City, Texas, who filled (by drawing) her five children, Noah (7), John (5), Paul (3), Luke (2), and Mary (6 months)—one by one in the bathtub of the family home.

For a third time, it was deemed by “experts” as postpartum psychosis.” She had attempted suicide twice in 1999, resulting in multiple psychiatric hospitalizations and of course no cure.

Yates was deeply influenced by extremist religious teachings (notably from itinerant preacher Michael Woroniecki). During her psychotic states, she believed she was possessed by Satan, that she was a defective mother, and that drowning her children was the only way to save their souls from hell.
