From Vatican Insider:
A “monster” that of clergy pedophilia, as defined by spokesman Alessandro Gisotti who, following the words of the Pope during his greetings to the Curia, thanked the media for having contributed with their investigative work to the emergence of stories of paedophilia of the clergy that otherwise would have taken the form of shelved files or traumas locked inside the victims’ minds. “We must look this monster in the face without fear in order to defeat it”, the interim director of the Vatican Press Office said with a moved voice.
And to defeat it we must first of all break the wall of silence that reigned for years in the Sacred Palaces and that led to the cover up of cases that occurred two pontificates ago that are now emerging in all their drama. “A silence that is no longer acceptable”, says Monsignor Scicluna, a former Vatican prosecutor on cases of abuse (he investigated on the founder of the Legionaries Marcial Maciel), whom the Pope sent to Chile to investigate the disasters caused by clergy pedophilia, and who is currently assistant secretary to the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
