I love stories about animals and the divine. I have had some interesting moments with animals, but one in particular stands out. I had a cat in my early years in my home, and eventually she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I asked the doctor if she was in pain, and he said no, but that she would become weaker and sicker as the disease progressed. I brought her home, unable to afford to treat her, and I asked the Blessed Mother to please not let her suffer.+
My cat had apparently been trained by someone previously to stay out of the bedroom, and she would only come in if I carried her in, and only until I stopped petting her and holding her, then she would politely leave the room. I had had an altar set up in my room since I converted, a small table with a throw rug under it and a bible and statues, holy water and sacred salt. From the day I asked Our Blessed Mother to watch over my cat, she slept under that altar every day. She only came out to eat, use her box, or to spend time with me, giving and getting affection. Then she would head right back into my room and go back to sleep under the altar. I couldn’t have greater proof of Our Lady’s loving response to my plea.+
