For decades, we’ve heard that expression: “earth changes.”
Too often, it’s from New Age forecasts, which often spring from the major geophysical shifts predicted by occultists such as Edgar Cayce (the “sleeping prophet”).
But the fact is that major geological and climate disruptions are also mentioned in Scripture, and we may be currently–almost certainly are–seeing the glimmerings of them.
One can point to the weather. One can underscore fire and floods. Or ice, in strange places (like Florida).
But how about an actual rupture in the “floor” of what we call the world?
For this, you can head for central Africa.
There, movement of what geophysicists call the African and Somali “plates” is occurring at approximately 0.8 centimeters (or a third of an inch) per year, driving formation of a massive surface rift in East Africa.
In 2005, an event in Ethiopia emphasized the rift’s volatility, notes the Daily Galaxy.
“Over 420 earthquakes within a short period created a large fissure in the Afar region, an area characterized by its extreme temperatures and arid conditions,” it reports. “What would typically unfold over centuries occurred in mere days, challenging long-held assumptions about geological timescales.”
The geological movement may sound (and is) minuscule, but it could speed up and, anyhow, mark the birthing of a new ocean basin.
Currently in the Ethiopian desert, this rift spans forty miles and reaches depths of more than thirty feet.
It is a beginning that is as modest as it is profound—and at the very least, serves as a harbinger.
In the U.S., similar fissures could occur anywhere from the East Coast to St. Louis to the earthquake faults in California, Oregon, and Washington.
No one has any real idea what would then ensue, let alone what forces from space could provoke planetary movements.
During the Bronze Age, something happened to Egypt, Syria, Iraq, Palestine, Turkey, and Crete that still baffles experts.
All they can agree on was that it was massive, for in Egypt and Mesopotamia—the land of Baal and Isis—an excruciating, interminable, and possibly unprecedented drought set in, drying up rivers and possibly lasting for three centuries.
The world’s first urban civilizations all fell at once (from Israel to Greece).
Sea levels fluctuated, as they are now doing in our time, threatening cities like Tokyo, New York, and especially Miami.
That’s climate shift, but we must also contemplate change below our very feet.
In Shapingba District, Chongqing, China, an inexplicable phenomenon occurred recently at the Xia Tianchi Reservoir [Tianchi means “Heavenly Lake”], which spans over a hundred acres: A massive pit suddenly appeared in the reservoir, causing the previously stored clear water and all the fish and other living organisms to vanish.
During medieval times, and in the Bible, these events were often seen as signs from the heavens or omens of significant change.
Might they still be?
While no specific, singular event of a lake “appearing overnight” is definitively recorded from the Middle Ages, many such transformations likely occurred and were interpreted as miraculous due to the dramatic natural processes involved.
The best prediction is one we have emphasized many times: expect the unexpected.
