Oh, covid: mysteries remain.
Did it–as seems most likely–come from a Chinese lab?
We never have gotten a definitive answer.
We’ll vote for lab.
The most serious and at times urgent question remains “long covid.”
By medical defitintion, that’s covid symptoms and effects that stretch past nine weeks.
At least–bare minimum–thirty million Americans have suffered from that, and at least fifteen million still do.
For covid can cause long-lasting effects on virtually any organ.
Many are still fatigued, experience “brain fog,” are short-winded, dizzy, have coronary problems (have you noticed the explosion of fib?), skipping heart beats, can’t shake headaches or upset stomachs, or perhaps lost taste or smell or both.
There can also be rashes, sleep problems, fevers, and a host of additional symptoms.
Thus far, there are no sure diagnoses and no sure medical treatment.
Low levels of cortisol often indicate it.
It can last for years (many who got covid in 2020, when it erupted, still have the effects), and tends to be worse for those who have had covid more than once, gaining momentum with each occurrence of the brutal disease, which barely affected many and killed many others.
With the heart is the matter of myocarditis: this is especially experienced by young men who had covid. It also has been noted as a side effect of covid vaccines (1 to 10 cases per 100,000 doses administered), though at a far lower rate than with covid itself (150 cases per 100,000 people infected with COVID-19).
Bottom line: covid can affect the heart and is nearly like a sleeper agent, lingering for long periods of time or surfacing long after the infection, whether vaccinated or not.
In the most recent reports, medical researchers claim that vaccination boosters reduces long covid. We’ll leave that to your own discernment.
Clearly, the disease itself is the big issue, and its multitude of effects on the bottom, and unpredictable pathways and durations, make it seem all the more likely to have been from a lab leak in Wuhan or in North Carolina, where, incredibly, the Chinese researchers were trained to modify the coronavirus into more virulent forms.
the true incidence rate in the population could be as low as 0.13 per 1,000 (or 13 per 100,000) and as high as 0.42 per 1,000 (or 42 per 100,000)
0.21 (95% CI 0.13-0.42) out of 1000 patients surviving COVID-19 infection. Conversely, AM occurred in 0.09 (95% CI 0.07-0.12) out of 1000 control subjects.
Overall, among 18‐ to 29‐year olds in the US, an estimated 22.4 excess cases per million after the second dose of Pfizer‐BioNTech® and 31.2 cases per million second doses after Moderna® vaccine developed myocarditis.
