From the Vatican Insider:
“Today too, there are consecrated men, “the Lord’s anointed”, who abuse the vulnerable, taking advantage of their position and their power of persuasion. They perform abominable acts yet continue to exercise their ministry as if nothing had happened. They have no fear of God or his judgement, but only of being found out and unmasked. Ministers who rend the ecclesial body, creating scandals and discrediting the Church’s saving mission and the sacrifices of so many of their confrères.”
It is a cry of pain that rises from the Sala Clementina, where the Pope meets all the members of the Roman Curia for the traditional Christmas greetings. If in past years Francis listed the fifteen curial “diseases”, the difficulties encountered in the process of reform, the corruptions and betrayals hidden behind the small circles, for this Christmas 2018 the Pope speaks instead of the “afflictions” that have marked the last twelve months of the Church, “hit by storms and hurricanes.” Abuse is absolutely the evil that most “cries out to the Lord for vengeance,” says Bergoglio, who addresses for the first time directly to “those who abuse minors” saying: “convert and hand yourself over to human justice, and prepare for divine justice.”
