BBC: “A Church-commissioned report in 2004 said more than 4,000 US Roman Catholic priests had faced sexual abuse allegations in the last 50 years, in cases involving more than 10,000 children – mostly boys.”
Wkipedia: “The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) commissioned the John Jay College of Criminal Justice in 2002 to conduct a comprehensive study based on surveys completed by the Roman Catholic dioceses in the United States. The product of the study, titled the John Jay Report indicated that some 11,000 allegations had been made against 4,392 priests in the USA. This number constituted approximately 4% of the priests who had served during the period covered by the survey (1950–2002).”
NBC: “The victims’ rights attorney, Jeff Anderson, called it a system of denial and cover-ups. He claims the Boy Scouts have files on child abusers within their ranks dating back to the 1940s. “As someone who has been talking about childhood sexual abuse, I’ve known of the ‘perversion files’ and the Boy Scouts of America problem for years now,” said Bridie Farrell, a survivor of abuse and co-founder of NY Loves Kids. “But when I spoke with Jeff and he told me these numbers, numbers of 7,000 and 12,000, I was shocked.”
