While there has been an overwhelming outpouring of affection for Dolly Parton in the wake of her death,  and countless testimonies about her love and kindness, there are also detractors, from a mayor who opposed the lowering flags to half staff for the country western legend (he feels lowered flags should be reserved for public officials and military heroes) to those who claim—in a way that is debatable—that at least fleetingly, she flirted with the occult side of the ledger.

This is relevant at a time of greatly heightened spiritual warfare and a “lifting of the veil.” Who’s running this world? (We think you know the answer.)

Podcasters have been quick, of course, to condemn, using clips from various videos and social-media posts that they believe show secret hand signals.

Below is one such clip that some believe shows the late country superstar was flashing a witchy hand symbol to Taylor Swift and her new husband.

It’s difficult to tell if indeed it was something surreptitious or simply a clip catching her in the process of simply closing her hands.

Here’s a snippet from Facebook (see the entire sequence here if you have a Facebook account). It seems like a bit of a stretch (that Dolly is giving a satanic signal), but you can decide. They do argue somewhat compellingly that the way she made an effort with her thumb holding down the two middle fingers evokes intentionality and her face for that split second is caught in an uncharacteristic and not warm countenance.

Remember always to view everyone from the perspective of charity and innocent-until-proven-guilty. Trust, but verify, a fellow named Ronald Reagan used to say.

But Dolly Parton was Hollywood-Nashville-celebrity to the brim (or is it “brink”?) and celebrities have been known for years to flash a “chic” symbol of the “illuminati.” Quite the fashion!

This much one must acknowledge: in addition to a very Christian comportment (she often spoke of Jesus and God), Dolly said that she and her husband had had sort of an “open” marriage (at least as far as “flirting” with others); she listed “sex” as one of the most important things to her (alongside music and religion), she strongly backed LGBTQ; she dressed provocatively, even lasciviously; she had substantial cosmetic surgery; and (say it ain’t so!) she once starred in a movie called The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas. There were times she acted in a seductive way with men on talk shows.

Worldly?

You bet.

On the other hand, Dolly started “Imagine Library,” which has shipped hundreds of millions of books to preschoolers to fight illiteracy around the world; she paid the health insurance and fees for employees of her “Dollywood” theme  park, which lifted the entire economy of her impoverished native county in Tennessee; she never forgot her very humble, even harsh childhood, raised in a cabin with eleven siblings and only one bed; and she left her fortune to charity (we’re talking $650 million).

Fruits?

Dolly was neither a saint nor a nun and didn’t profess to be. And there was a storm brewing out there in the Atlantic when she died, one the National Hurricane Center (through pure coincidence) had designated as “Dolly.”

But was she part of a celebrity network of actual satanists who practice sacrifice?

Below, admittedly, is a curious clip in which to the ears of many, Dolly offers a toast to what sounds to some like “the god Azazel,” identified in the non-canonical Book of Enoch as a major demon—one who was said to have taught men forbidden knowledge, including metallurgy, the art of crafting metal weapons and armor—and as for women, the means of beautifying themselves with hair dyes, face paints, and other cosmetics. His defeat came at the hand of Raphael who, on God’s command, chained him to jagged rocks where he was to remain until the Day of Judgment. The late singer was with fellow celebrities Jennifer Aniston and Sandra Bullock.

That seems like case closed. And there is a large cult of such worship among celebrities.

But wait a minute. Wasn’t it all goofing around? Wasn’t it tequila they were drinking, and might she have been toasting to a high-end brand of that liquor called “Azul”?

There is this strange song she sang, “Go to Hell,” directed at the devil while Parton was dressed in devilish red.

We note in the comment section of one YouTube video condemning Parton as a “witch”—amid a torrent of virtually unanimous negative remarks about Parton—this comment giving us that other side to consider. “Let me share with you my experience with her personally,” wrote Dustin Lee Vaughan.

“I had a kidney transplant eight years ago. Before that while I was waiting on a match my friends took me to Dollywood for a distraction. She was there that Saturday and I decided to go to the meet and greet.

“I’m born-raised Tennessean so the chance to meet Dolly is more important than meeting the president. When I was in line I got to watch her interact with the people in front of me. And only way you could describe it was Holy Spirit was shining. She was loving and kind to everyone. Made sure to talk about Jesus with every single person and told everyone to go to church somewhere tomorrow. When it got to my time to see her we talked and I told her about my condition. She gasped and asked me one question. ‘Are you a Christian?’ And I said yes ma’am. I am. And she took my hands and smiled and said ‘Well then let’s take it on to our Jesus!’

“And she said the sweetest holiest prayer over me I’ve ever heard. Afterwards she hugged me and said ‘Don’t you worry, son, Jesus had you in his hands and he will never leave you or forsake you. And we serve a mighty mighty God Who is rich in healing. I know he’s gonna see you on through.’ Through it all I could FEEL God in her Love. You can’t fake that. I have no doubt in my mind her faith was in Jesus. She may not have had perfect theology but I don’t either. Theology doesn’t save you. The Blood of Jesus does.”
