Prophetic Pulse: When The Implausible Becomes Plausible

October 27, 2025 by sd

You may remember the name James Wilburn Chauncey. We interviewed him years ago for an article on his fascinating book detailing supposed prophecies he was given during a near-death experience in the 1940s (Eyewitness To Heaven).

Chauncey saw major upheaval in the Middle East, focused on Syria, which would be invaded (perhaps by Iran) and later, the U.S. attacked by Russia, Muslims, and China—war all over, including nuclear destruction of major cities (starting with New York, Washington, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Atlanta, and Jacksonville). Like so many, he saw California sinking.

Chauncey, who lived in Georgia (a retired businessman/engineer) and died in 2020, had added, “What’s going on with Russia and China is pretty much right on track—the influx of the Arab people into other parts of Europe. I can’t even talk to my wife about it because she gets scared seeing it on the news. I had told her before and she had shrugged it off. Most shrugged this thing off. There’s also a great geologic event or events that I eyewitnessed, a great shake-up, especially in this part of the world.”

In fact, the geologic events Chauncey believed he was shown involved the United States. “In the great land of North America, an enormous lake was formed in the upper-middle portion of America,” he had said of this alleged vision of the near future. He believed the events would occur after his death.

“Mountains had fallen; canyons disappeared; the courses of rivers were changed, and much land disappeared. Portions of Texas and Arizona were now lakes. What had been deserts of the west were now green and lush with trees and vegetation. Asia, Africa, Europe, and the world over became lush with vegetation, clear water, lakes, and rivers, and an abundance of fish, fowl, and animal life.”

This is all interesting on several levels.

While Russia and China spent decades at odds with each other, they now have formed a close alliance.

At the same time, Russia is closely aligned with Iran—using drones it manufactures in forays over NATO countries (and sparking fear of another world war).

The eruption of trade tensions with China and allegations of domestic interference by Russia have brought face-front what seemed previously like implausible predictions.

Going further—in the realm of those supposed future geophysical disasters—we recall Venezuela mystic Maria Esperanza’s prediction of great disruptions in America. “There will be problems and certain natural calamities,” was how she had put it. “I see little quakes and certain others. Pray for the leaders of the United States!”

Chauncey’s vision of fantastic geophysical change also brings to mind Sister Lucia dos Santos of Fátima, who had what she called an “illumination” about the Third Secret: “The tip of the spear as a flame unlatches and touches the axis of the earth. It shudders. Mountains, cities, towns, and villages with their inhabitants are buried. The sea, the rivers, and the clouds emerge from their limits, overflowing and bringing with them in a whirlwind houses and people in numbers that are not possible to count. It is the purification of the world as it plunges into sin. Hatred and ambition cause the destructive war!”

In non-Christian realms is a prophecy from the ancient Hopi Indians of the Southwest.

The prophecy, passed down through countless generations, does not speak only of political change or symbolic transformation. It foretells a time of great natural upheaval—a purification of the earth itself. According to the elders, the world has passed through several previous ages, each ending when humankind lost its harmony with the Creator and the natural world. The present age, they say, is the Fourth World—and it, too, draws toward its close.

In the old teachings, the end of each world comes not through chance, but through imbalance. When humanity turns from sacred law and lives out of harmony with the earth, the world must be cleansed and renewed. The Hopi call this coming time the “Great Purification.” It will be marked by earthquakes, violent storms, and great fires. Rivers will change course, mountains will awaken, and strange signs will appear in the sky. The seasons will grow confused; winter will come late, and summer will bring cold. The land will tremble and split, and the winds will sweep across continents.

So convinced was Hopi Elder Thomas Banyacya of this that he brought the alleged prophecies to the United Nations in 1992, warning that these changes would not come as punishment but as correction. “If we do not heed the warnings and live in balance with nature,” he said, “Mother Earth will shake again—not in anger, but to cleanse herself.”

Occult meanderings (and as such, to be immediately discarded)? Or something to be discerned?

We’d be careful. Earth worship?

Among the most mysterious parts of the Hopi vision are the signs of the Blue Star Kachina and the Red Kachina. The Blue Kachina is said to appear in the heavens as the first signal that the time of purification has begun. Some see it as a celestial body, perhaps a comet or a new star, that will capture the world’s attention. After it appears, the Red Kachina will follow—the purifier, who brings the final cleansing and the beginning of a new world. In that day, said the elders, the sky will change color, the earth will shake, and the proud structures of man will fall.

Yet even within this warning is a promise. Those who remain faithful to the Creator’s ways, who live simply, tend the earth, and keep peace in their hearts, will survive to enter the Fifth World—a renewed age of balance.

Whether these events belong to our time or to a future generation is not stated. Supposedly, only the elders can say for sure. But their message was clear: the world is out of harmony, and the signs of change are gathering. The prophecies ask us not merely to watch for disasters but to change ourselves before they arrive.

As Banyacya told the U.N. more than thirty years ago, “If we destroy [the earth], we destroy ourselves.”

Perhaps the true meaning of the Hopi prophecy is not destruction, but rebirth.
