From NCR:
Attorneys for Bishop Robert Guglielmone of Charleston released a statement Aug. 14 saying that the allegations of sexual abuse of a minor levied against him are “provably false.”
In the lawsuit, Powers v. Diocese of Rockville Centre, filed the same day in State Court in Nassau County, New York, the plaintiff alleged that Guglielmone sexually abused him in 1978 or 1979. At the time, the bishop was serving as a priest at St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church in Amityville, New York, in the Diocese of Rockville Centre. “These allegations are false, provably false,” wrote attorneys Bruce Barket and Aida Leisenring. “As the plaintiff admitted to a family member, he made this up in order to get money from the church (‘it’s worth a try,’ the plaintiff said).”
