Pro-Life Or Bait And Switch?

March 31, 2026 by sd

We’re now basically a pro-life nation, right?

The answer of course: very wrong.

While abortions are down from their peak of 1.6 million a year in 1990, they’ve been back on the rise in recent years, particularly due to stealth and convenient “medications” (abortion pills, packaged like Contact).

The lowest recorded number of abortions of all kinds was in 2017 at under 900,000. But we’re now back above a million (1,038,100 in 2024). The figures include surgical and medication abortions performed within the formal healthcare system, with medication abortions now accounting for nearly two-thirds of the total cases.

And this is almost certainly an underestimate, excluding, as it does, abortions effected by pills mailed into states that have banned the killing of unborn. The Guttmacher Institute reports that approximately 642,700 abortions were performed via the abortion pill (medication abortion) within the U.S. health care system in 2023.

There are now thirteen states with total abortion bans, but women are crossing state lines for surgical procedures if they don’t procure abortion chemicals in the mailbox.

(Fortunately Amazon doesn’t sell them yet.)

Time to ban the pill.

The new method accounted for sixty-three percent of all abortions in the formal health care system in 2023, representing a significant increase from 2020, when the method accounted for fifty-three percent of all abortions, according to the institute’s findings.

Add to all this intrauterine devices, which chiefly prevent fertilization of an egg but can also irritate the endometrium (the lining of the uterus), making it inhospitable to the blastocyst (the very early developing human being), which is an abortifacient effect.

At the other end of lifespan is another anti-life procedure: physician-assisted suicide or euthanasia. Canada reported 16,499 Medical Assistance in Dying (MAID) provisions in 2024, accounting for approximately 5.1 percent of all deaths in the country that year. In the U.S. physician-assisted suicide is legal in California, Colorado, the District of Columbia, Hawaii, Minnesota, Maine, Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, Montana, Oregon, Vermont, and Washington, tallying about three thousand a year.

A clever term, that: “physician-assisted suicide, as opposed to full-on “euthanasia,” which is solely through the actions of a doctor.

Clever, but both tantamount to murder-suicide.

[Footnote: the states that ban abortions: Alabama, Arkansas, Idaho, Indiana, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia. Additionally, states like Florida, Georgia, Iowa, South Carolina, and Wyoming have implemented early gestational bans, often at six weeks, which function as near-total bans for many individuals.]
