Numbers are a funny thing.
Often they speak more clearly than words and often mich louder.
Take abortion, which suddenly all but disappeared from election rhetoric (sinking, apparently, in public concerns).
That’s probably because other numbers—economic ones—clouded the landscape (telling us something about actual priorities).
The striking finding is that abortions in the United States have increased substantially over the past decade, despite the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022 and “pro-life” politicians running Washington.
In Canada, reported abortions have also risen, although much less dramatically—though what has been dramatic is the number of those dying by choice (euthanasia). Oh, that the unborn were given such a choice.
These figures include both surgical abortions and medication (chemical) abortions, insofar as they are captured by each country’s reporting system.
In the U.S. in 2016, there were 874,100 recorded abortions.
In 2025 (the last full year) there were 1,126,000—an amazing twenty-eight percent increase.
The bottom line is that abortion has not disappeared with greater restrictions in the United States. Its delivery has changed substantially, with abortion pills and telemedicine playing an increasingly important (and nefarious) role.
Comparing the figures to historic genoicdes, Hitler had his 11–17 million, Stalin his six to twenty million, and Mao had his firty to forty-five million. That’s at the topmopst figure 82 million.
How many abortions have occurred worldwide since records began?
Approximately 2.1–2.2 billion.
That puts Hitler and Stalin and Mao and anyone else (toss in Genghis Khan) to shame.
