An Old And Still Amazing Marian Miracle

September 20, 2026 by sd

Below is a video well worth viewing.

Let us synopsize it:

In 1754, in a remote canyon near Ipiales, Colombia, María Mueses de Quiñones was traveling with her young daughter Rosa, who according to tradition had been deaf and unable to speak from birth.

Caught in a storm, they took shelter near the rocky grotto of Las Lajas. Soon afterward, Rosa unexpectedly began speaking and described a beautiful woman she could see near the rocks. Later María herself reportedly saw the Virgin Mary there holding the Christ Child.

When Rosa subsequently became gravely ill and was believed to have died, María carried her back to the grotto and prayed desperately. Rosa reportedly revived. Soon afterward, villagers discovered upon the rock an extraordinary image of Mary and the Christ Child, accompanied by Saint Dominic and Saint Francis.

The image became the center of the famous shrine of Our Lady of Las Lajas. Accounts cited in the transcript claim later investigators found no ordinary surface paint or brushstrokes and that the coloration appeared to penetrate the rock itself. Despite centuries of humidity, seepage, smoke, and exposure, the image has remained vivid.

The present sanctuary dramatically spans the canyon, while thousands of plaques left by pilgrims testify to reported healings, favors, and answered prayers.

A similar mystery is associated with Our Lady of Coromoto in Venezuela.

In 1652, the indigenous chief Coromoto reportedly saw a luminous woman who urged him to accept baptism. During a later apparition in his hut, he attempted to seize her. She vanished, but a tiny image — only about two centimeters tall — was reportedly left in his hand. The relic was preserved, and later examination was said to show an unusual natural fiber rather than ordinary paper or cloth. Under magnification, researchers reportedly found remarkable detail in the Virgin’s tiny eye, including what appeared to be the reflection of a human figure.

The third image is the famous tilma of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Mexico.

Las Lajas, Coromoto, and Guadalupe thus present three striking Marian traditions: an image seemingly embedded in rock, a miniature image preserved on mysterious fiber, and a centuries-old tilma associated with unusual astronomical and physical properties.

Some claims remain disputed or difficult to verify independently. Yet all three continue to draw pilgrims who regard them as possible examples of images not made by ordinary human hands.
