Mailbag: Demons Can’t (Or Can?) Read Thoughts

November 24, 2019 by sd

I read the above referenced article and the comment from Adam Blai (he and I trained together in Rome [Exorcism and the Prayer of Deliverance], back in 2011).  I must say that I disagree with the conclusion, which implies that the devil can indeed read our thoughts.  The overwhelming biblical (I will not bother quoting the plethora of scriptures at this time) and anecdotal evidence which includes the witness of Exorcists, as well as my own personal experience in the area of Exorcism and Deliverance/Spiritual Warfare (of which I am active), indicates the contrary.  If we take the time to really understand how the enemy works and what he is allowed (by God) to do, then we can fully grasp our own standing in this matter.  To put it plainly, the devil can read our thoughts under three particular circumstances, that I am aware of: #1: If we allow him to enter into our thoughts.  #2: If we are facing him (one on one in a spiritual battle, as in an exorcism or deliverance session), and we are not “clean”.  This is one of the reasons we need the sacrament of Confession immediately before going into these types of battles.  If we are not clean and attempt to do battle, we leave an opening in our armor(Eph. 6) which allows the enemy in. This opening allows him to read our unconfessed sins and any thoughts attached to them and bring them to the forefront, publicly in order to shame us, which in turn weakens us for the battle. #3: When we direct our thoughts toward him.  This can be as a plea for his help, which many people do through various means: occult, ghost hunting, witchcraft… Or as an attack against him, through our weapons which can be different types of prayer.  He can certainly read those thoughts and he can be vanquished by them.  We must be aware that it is a slippery slope, speculating that the enemy can read our thoughts and invade those parts of the soul to which only God has access.  This type of thinking gives the enemy credit for more power than God has allowed. Just because prayer is in the realm of the Spirit and the enemy is a spirit does not mean that he has access to our thoughts and prayers.  Remember that there are laws which exist in the spiritual realm which he has to abide by.  One of the most important laws is the law of Freewill.  Without our consent, without allowing him access to our thoughts and prayers, he cannot read our thoughts or prayers and even if he could God ties his hands so he cannot act unless we allow him to.
Now, the situation with the cards and the guessing of the card … if sleight of hand experts can do this, how much easier can a demon do this?  It’s not the fact that the demon “knew” the card he would pick, it’s the preparation of the victim to pick the proper card, to make it appear as though he were reading the thought.  It’s all about the preparation and the devil is an expert at that through various means including but not limited to the power of suggestion.
Regarding Telepathy, here again, we cooperate with the telepath and open up to them (cooperate).
Coupled with the knowledge of our weaknesses and strengths, the enemy’s astuteness is great.  That is why we need the protection of our Holy Angel!
So, just to conclude.  We cannot and must not give the devil credit for what only God can do.  If he reads our thoughts, it’s only because he has our cooperation… sorry Adam!
Peace.
Thanks Michael and God Bless your Ministry.
